Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Colt Stampede?
This is a fun run with some crazy color and all your Cottonwood Creek buddies! All CCE families and faculty are encouraged to participate in this momentous, colorful run!

How is this run different?

This run is special because it is at Cottonwood Creek and involves tons of colorific powder! Join your friends, family, and silly acquaintances for our fun run. It doesn't matter how fast or old you are, but instead, getting up on the start line to get covered in color and contribute to a great cause - our school!

The Color
The Cottonwood Creek Elementary Colt Stampede course will designate different parts of the course color zones in which large amounts of color will be blasted upon you!  The different colors are 100% natural and safe.

The Post Race Color Explosion

At the end of the run, prepare to cool down at our color explosion on the grass by the track.  Stick around, celebrate your accomplishment, and most importantly, have some fun!

Where is the race?

We will begin and end at Cottonwood Creek Elementary and run/walk/crawl/hop/skip/jump like crazies through the school field and around the campus.  A map of the race course will be available online and will also be included in your race packet the day of pick-up.

Will there be food at the race?

The In-N-Out food truck will be there from 5:30-7 serving burgers. You must pre-order your food ticket online by 10/19 (11:59 p.m.). You will pick up your food tickets at the race and hand them to the In-N-Out truck for a burger, chips, and a drink. There is a grilled cheese option (bun and cheese) and a veggie option (fully loaded burger minus the meat).  The cost is $5 per meal. Angel Cakes will also be there with goodies, so bring some cash!

When does the race start?

We will have On-site Late Registration open at 5:00 pm and the first wave of the race begins at 5:30p.m.  We ask that racers line up at the start line in order of pace; this would put walkers toward the back.  The times will be set by grade level. Parents run with your children.

Once I register, do I get anything cool?

Student participants this year will begin receiving Panda Character Key Chains and a Colt Stampede lanyard to put them on.  Pandas will be awarded each week to the students with the most registrations and for getting family members to donate funds.  There will also be class prizes each week such as pajama day, hat day, popsicle party, etc.

Do I need to enter my Olympic qualifying time to run this race?
If you run that fast we might not be able to get the color on you!  This is a really laid back run/walk/crawl/hop/skip/jump with the focus on having a blast with friends and exploring color theory!  So relax, don't wear a watch, we won't time you (unless you really want to and we will count out loud while you run).

When do I get my race packet?

Race packets will be available for pickup Friday, October 20th from 3-6 pm in the gym.  The packet will contain t-shirts, course map, race information and sponsor goodies.

Do you donate to a good cause?

You bet!  ALL proceeds from the Cottonwood Creek Colt Stampede will go towards the students at CCE!

Can children who don't attend Cottonwood participate?

ABSOLUTELY!  Children who are able to walk/run the course may participate - just sign them up accordingly, and a guardian over 18 must sign the waiver.

What about jog strollers?

We don't recommend strollers on our course since it isn't the smoothest ride! Kids 4 and under are welcome to run for free!

My dog is my running partner, can he/she come?

No, dogs are color blind and would really miss the point.

Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?

The "color" does mostly wash out after the event.  As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it, the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn't mind getting colorful.  If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt after the race, spray it with vinegar and iron it before you wash it.

Does getting bashed with color affect runner vision? Or breathing?
The color explosions are basically food grade cornstarch and are 100% natural and SAFE. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our Color Exploders make sure to aim low as you pass by.  Some runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana for their mouths. Even though we aim low, the wind does carry the color.

How does the color affect the inside of cars?

Most people bring some towels for the inside of their cars, just in case.  It's like driving home from the swimming pool in your swimsuit.

Are there any other activities at the race?

Of course!  We will have a DJ playing great music, a silent auction with some great items to bid on, a photo booth/selfie station, and post-race color explosion.
